		<Abstract>The Cahn-Hilliard equation is discretized by a Galerkin finite element  method based on continuous piecewise linear functions in space and discontinuous piecewise constant functions in time. A posteriori error estimates are proved by using the methodology of dual weighted residuals.</Abstract>
